Just Think I.T. - History

A long history in IT (as far as the IT industry goes that is) of 19 years in a business environment, The following is just a brief summary.

With dabbling with the Sinclair Spectrum at home in the eighties, but nothing really useful came from that and its main role was playing games (after taking some 15 minutes to load one game, then after 35 minutes later.....after the third attempt!) But at the time we were impressed with the technology.

Real computer work started in 1989 commissioning and supporting a bespoke EPOS and Reporting system in retail. Running on Fortran this was a simple end user graphical interface that was nothing like the modern windows style interfaces we see today. Running within that was an AS400 system. Also all of the support had to be done from the Command line with none of the modern style tools and utilities we are now able to use in order to resolve issues.
Each retail network connected to a Mainframe at the Head Office, connecting firstly via modem then later X25 ISDN. This was in the days when a 5.5inch Floppy discs were really floppy! 4Mb RAM was massive and a Hard Drive over 20Mb was deemed excessive. Green text on black screen, it was all cutting edge technology.

From 1996 came the supporting role for Windows PC's and Mac's. With experience supporting all flavours of Windows computers in a network environment with network file sharing, email etc, as well as Macs in a single user and network environment from OS 7 through to OS 9 and recently OS X.
Supporting many large 'blue chip' clients and the print industry in and around London as well as East Anglia. Supporting most things IT related:

Networking/Wireless networking, Servers (Windows and Mac), Routers/Hubs, Email/Internet/Web, Broadband/ADSL , Remote support, Hardware, Software, Back up (Disaster Recovery), Consultancy and a basic Level of FileMaker Databases. Just a few of the topics covered in the IT industry.

Recently the popularity of Wireless Networking has created a new interest in networking in the home as well as for business. Just Think I.T. has installed countless Wireless Networks and ensured they are secure.
